Our family has been using essential oils for over a year now and since moving to the homestead, we’ve found that there are many we just can’t be without. We use our EO’s for everything from bug bites to homemade laundry detergent and cleaning products. They offer us a more versatile way of living as naturally as possible.
Don’t get me wrong, we do use many herbs as well, but we currently do not have the room to store the amount of herbs we would need for every common ailment our family encounters. I love the convenience of throwing a small roller bottle of EO in my pocket and heading out the door to tend to outside work.
You can check out more of the EO’s we use here on the homestead here. If you’d like to receive discounts on any of these oils, please feel free to message me at anytime and we can chat.
Top 5 Essential Oil Picks For The Homestead
Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca)
Without a doubt, Melaleuca is the number one Essential Oil we use here on the homestead. Melaleuca is a natural, purifying agent, so instead of grabbing harsh chemicals like peroxide or alcohol, we reach for our Melaleuca roller bottle. We use our Melaleuca to help with small wounds and bug bites. Living in the country, we deal with a lot of annoying bugs. The Melaleuca helps soothe mosquito bites and helps clean the bite where a tick may have attached itself to you.
This is another oil that is known for it’s purifying abilities. One of our main goals here on the homestead is to be as chemical free as possible. Lemon EO allows us to accomplish that goal. We use our Lemon EO to make our homemade cleaning products, dish soap and laundry detergent. Not only does it deodorize our clothing, it adds an extra cleaning boost when we add it to our homemade cleaner.
After a long day of working and sometimes playing 🙂 on the homestead it’s hard to settle down and relax at the end of the day. Lavender has a long history of being known for its relaxing properties. This EO has become a regular part of our children’s bath time routine around here.
With so much work going on, we are exhausted and our immune systems have a tendency to take a hit when we get run down. On Guard Essential Oil has been extremely beneficial for us in keeping our immune systems strong. We really believe that prevention is key to keeping all of us healthy and On Guard allows us to do that.
I really can’t say enough good about this EO. Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, Helichrysum and Osmanthus work together to provide a cooling effect and can be quite comforting for tired, achy, sore muscles. When you go from living in town to living on 15 acres in the country and putting in 12+ hour days of physical work, your body gets pretty sore. Deep Blue has been amazing in soothing all of our aches, pains and tired muscles.
I have learned over the last year that there are several EO’s that are very beneficial for our family and homestead. As you continue to grow and learn more about EO’s, you’ll be able to find the best Essential Oils that work for your family. I’ve also learned that by taking my time and getting to know how each oil helps a certain common ailment, I am better to help my family members and myself heal quicker. By taking it slow and giving our oils time to work their magic, we are able to see which oils we are using most often and which ones need to be kept on hand.
